Before you rent

What do I need to bring?

Usually photo ID and a credit card. Many shops put a hold on the card until the bike comes back. If you ride clipless, bring your own pedals or ask what the shop has; some will install them for you.

Helmets and locks?

Riders under 18 must wear a helmet in Ontario. Many shops rent or lend helmets and locks, so ask when you book. Lock the bike any time you step away from it, even for a minute.

Can I take a rental to the Islands?

Ferries to the Islands leave from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at 9 Queens Quay W, and water taxis run from the harbour. Or rent on Centre Island and skip bringing a bike across.

Where should I ride?

From the waterfront, the Martin Goodman Trail runs about 22 km along the lake, and the Islands have an easy loop of about 15 km from Ward's Island to Hanlan's Point. Renting a mountain bike? See our Trail Picks.
